In Rome, there were rich people, poor people and slaves. The most powerful person was the emperor.
Once a year, slaves and masters changed places for the day. In roman towns, most people rented rooms. Only rich Romans could afford houses. Poor people rented rooms on the top floor. Richer people had big rooms lower down. Surprisingly, Romans didn't use wallpaper. They just painted picture on their walls. I think this is a good idea because people can write their favorite picture.
Most Romans men and women dressed up in long, flowing pieces of material. Everyone wore a simple cloth tunic. Women wore a dress over their tunic. Sometimes they wore a big shawl too. Only the emperor was allowed to dress all in purple. Everyone dressed the same way at baths. They all wore nothing!
Most Romans food came from farms. This is same with Japan. The Romans didn't have sugar. So they used honey to sweeten their food. Every spring, the Romans had a party to celebrate Flora, the goddess of flowers. This is a nice party.
We go to a school every day, but girls didn't go to school because they got married at a very young age. Wow! It is very fast for me.
This book is written about Romans detail. I could know about their lifestyle.
